KopaBro

Safe peer-to-peer lending for Kenya

KopaBro (formerly Kopa Beshta) makes lending money to the people you know safe: fair rates, proper agreements and built-in trust, so helping a friend does not cost you the friendship.

It is my own venture, currently in build. The Central Bank of Kenya digital-credit licensing pack is being prepared alongside the product.

Why

Most Kenyans lend to friends and family, and most of that money moves on trust alone. Defaults turn into ghosting, fights and blocked numbers. The stress wrecks friendships, and there is no record, no agreement and no recourse.

What it does

  • Post your need: borrowers request a loan with clear terms.
  • Match and agree: lenders pick who they trust, at a fair rate, with a proper agreement.
  • Secure escrow: money is protected until all terms are met.
  • Get repaid: automated reminders and verified payments, with CRB integration and vetting to keep defaults low.

What I led

  • Product concept, brand and the go-to-market story.
  • Architecture around the regulated rails: M-Pesa, escrow, and the CBK Non-Deposit-Taking Credit Provider application.
